About us

“A fertile soil alone does not carry agriculture to perfection” words by one American farmer , E.H. Derby. The same words that inspired Helena Agspace to be where it is today.

Thousands if not millions of farmers like me suffer a lot when it comes to marketing and most of the time we end with the short end of the stick as others line their pockets with our back breaking money. This is how Helena Agspace came into existence.

Helena Agspace was formed in Homabay county in Kenya 2017 but officially registered by the government of Kenya as a company in 2019.Its main aim was to lift the living standards of farmers in that region by linking them to markets, teaching them about modern ways to farm and also giving them access to proper farm inputs.

It started off with around 20 farmers who joined me and together we were able to sell our produce, maize by then directly to a miller instead of using brokers who squeezed us on our money. From there we realized that if we could aggregate our produce together, then we had a better bargaining power and we could access the markets directly. We got a store after that convinced other farmers to give us their produce and we would pay them a better price than what they were getting and also that they could bring it all at once instead of selling it bit by bit.

It started off with maize aggregation then beans and finally found a home in white sorghum farming as its more structured and the farmers are very sure of the prices before they plant. At the moment it has around 1500 contracted farmers under its name and still hoping to recruit more under the same program. Our main advantage has been our timely payment of the farmers.

Not that we left maize and beans aggregation, we are still doing the same but at a different level and also looking into soy beans as a new crop to bring on board.

Helena Agspace has not only brought the market nearer to the farmers but has also helped farmers with access to seeds on credit and also promoted farm mechanization by letting farmers access to these services on loan which they later pay on credit.

For Helena Agspace, we aiming at the skies but if we happen to touch the clouds, that’s a plus.
